re: RS-TR313

Hi I have this model I was recording and it auto stopped now not taking up tape on play or record works OK on play the other way any idea what this could be

Thanks mark

re: RS-TR313

Probably you have the same problem as I have. It is the gear RDG5772Z that's failing on this model and also other Technics decks that use the same type of gear. It works fine on the reverse side but it won't wind the tape in the other. Check the service manual on this site to find exactly which one has problem for you.
You can find it online 3D printed https://www.shapeways.com/product/53YGKKQ4M/zahnrad-gear-wheel-technics-... because the originals are very rare to find.

re: Technics RS-TR313 cassette tape drag

I have a RS-TR313 ( since Feb. 1995) and recently one (1) of the tape decks has started to drag tapes as they are 3/4 done. Even happens with 15 minute long tapes. It seems to occur after the machine has been running over an hour or so. I have cleaned and demagnetized the head. The other deck works fine.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,

re: Technics RS-TR313 cassette tape drag

After 22 years, I'd suspect that the belts are in need of replacement now.
Rubber parts do deteriorate, in time.

re: Technics RS-TR313 cassette tape drag

Thank you, are new parts still available?

re: Technics RS-TR313 cassette tape drag

Belts and drives are always available.
What is involved is getting the RIGHT size belt (thickness/length) and doing the major job of dis-assembling the mechanism to remove the belts/drives.
Cleaning, re-lubing the mech properly, and re-assembly then.
Job for someone experienced.

re: Technics RS-TR313 cassette tape drag

Thank you, I am not going to tackle replacing the belts. I am using it to transfer music cassettes to my reel to reel tapes so I think I will just muddle through using the the other deck.

re: Technics RS-TR313 cassette tape drag

Try changing belts yourself it's not hard at all easy to get to on this tape deck
