This receiver gets tops marks across the board, and does well competing against similar models by Sansui and Pioneer. In fact, I have to admit it sounds better than both my Sansui QRX3500 or my Pioneer QX8000. Given those are both lower wattage quad receivers, but I always go with at least 4 speakers in a setup, and that puts the wattsge a little closer to even.
This Technics receiver just has a nice warm tone, and check out the specs: incredibly low distortion and you can't get much better than 100db for a line level signal to noise ratio.
But those are just numbers, when you hear the way it brings to life your vintage speakers, you could care less what the stats are, it's just nice to qualify what my ears are telling me.
I dig the digital display on the tuner. Almost seems out of place on the old wooden hulk. I also dig the tone controls and how you can really dial in the sound you prefer.
I had initially gave this receiver a 9, but after hearing my own harangue, I'm upping it to a 10. Can't think of what could be done to make this receiver any better..

Love 'em! I have to fix mine after 30 years, but boy are they worth their weight. And they are HEAVY!
