re: SL-P7

I will never forget buying this CD Player. It sat on the shelf in a store for almost a year. CD's were still too new to be mainstream and too expensive. I purchased this and my first Compact Disk Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense. The SL-P7 was on sale around $400 and Stop Making Sense was over $30!

The sound was so clean and fantastic. All of my friends thought it was amazing. It was slow going to build a CD library when I was a young teen as the discs were so expensive...but the sound on many, was amazing. Then crappy from-tape re-issues came along and many CD's sounded like junk. In the beginning only certain CD's were really worth it.

In 1990 I upgraded to something new and sold the SL-P7 to my brother for a $100. Two years later it was skipping all the time and it just wouldn't track a tune. My brother tossed it in the trash and purchased an NAD player.

That SL-P7 CD player worked perfect for 7 or 8 years. I remember how heavy it was yet compact. I miss that hunk of junk. Good times. We were young and everything was new. Nowadays the change in technology occurs in less than a calendar year.
