Bought one of these new back in 1989. I was upgrading an existing Technics system and this was the top of the line integrated amplifier back then. I was struck by how clear and transparent the sound was when in either digital optical out or Analogue direct out (bypassing the tone control circuit) I loved the look of it and the power amp levels of power and size too, but with the convenience of an integrated. Even the owner of the hifi store who wasn't a fan of most Japanese consumer audio brands was surprised by how clear and transparent it sounded without stridency or harshness, even at very high volume levels (in either digital optical out or analogue direct out). The tone controls, while only offering the basic Bass, Treble & Balance funtions, they were very well sorted in the frequency range, Q, Boost/Cut and while it lost some clarity and dynamic range with the tone control circuit in, was still very good sounding. My only wish was that it had a pre-amp out.
Unfortunately my tone control circuit board burnt out & the Amp sat for years not having been repaired and eventually I sold it for chump change parts just to get rid of it as I had since bought another amplifier :-S

The best integrated amp I've owned. It's a proper Japanese tank from the end of the 'golden age', very powerful but transparent too. The on-board high-grade DAC is a bonus as it turns any CD/DVD etc player with a digital o/p into a high-end player.
The 'power amp direct' feature- bypassing the pre-amp section but still using the main volume control- is very useful and ensures optimum sound quality.
I've just re-capped the main amp board on mine and it rivals my Quad 520 power amp now. Get one while you can!

Great! Amazingly detailed and sharp highs but never harsh. Very precise bass as well! It manages to reveal just about everything that has been put into the music, with some good speakers offcourse! The v90d can measure itself with amplifiers -both integrated and seperated- that are way above it's price class!

SU-V90D is an amazing amp. Can't believe this thing is made by Technics. It's in a different class. Basically you get a digital compatible pr-amp and a power-amp in one unit. Excellent !!

This thing is a sleeper!!! Although it looks like a usual top of the range amplifier from a consumer brand Technics, sonic-wise it is a surprise. I have not heard such sound from an integrated amp. (although it's bigger brother, the SU-100D should be even better, but that one for the japan's market only...) This thing has a sound completely equal to the big pre+power amp. combos of other brands. Crisp, clear details, good 3D soundstage, good power reserves and fast dynamics. If you see one, my advise it to grab it and keep it !
