good amplifier, solid and nice conception
the sound is good but a little metallic..
i have compared to my Yam A520 and Yam A720 (with sanken transistor, of course !..) ... much more musical and pleasant to listen to, sound's sweet :)
note : the input selector fail after a couple of years, just replace the encoder (inexpensive) and it's good.

I have owned modern amps such as the NAD 326 BEE and Marantz PM 6004 and this completely blows them away.

I'm hearing detail from this amp that I don't hear from the two other amps mentioned above.

The bass is amazing, the sound is smooth and detailed - never grating.

I picked mine up for £70 and use it daily and it matches perfectly with B&W DM602 s3.

I have also heard the big brother of this, the AX-596, which sounds slightly cleaner but with less bass. I prefer the AX-396.

I highly recommend this amplifier to anyone.

I've had this amplifier since 2002 (if I remember correctly) and I can safely say it an amazing sound equipment. I've connected my PC, a turntable and a DVD (which I use for CD listening) to it and the sound is impeccable. I've paired it with a couple of not-so-bad 6? JVC speakers I had from my previous stereo. I haven't noticed any distortion or any other issue on it throughout all these years. At 60W max output power it is adequate for my needs too.
