This amp is a monster, hot and wonderful. I remember when I brough this home, the unit requires it's own dedicated AC power plug rated at 1200 watts. (Yamaha recommend it's own dedicated fuse and plug). I thought I was buying an amp, what I purchased was a room heater. If you can't cook and egg on the top of this unit at idle the FETs are not biased correctly. So its designed to be running hard, all of the time regardless of input, True Class-A. The only way to cool it down is to crank it up. Send some of the power to the speaker to dissipate.
The sound is absolutely gorgeous, like a Quad tubed amp on steroids. Beautiful amp, sonically no vices, just like taking a warm bath in the music. Make sure you get the optional Vu meters version. Great Amp, only issue is the power consumption. The FETs' used in this amp are proprietary, enormous with 1000 paralleled FET transistors placed in this huge over-sized To-3 case. There are 4 x of them. In 1980's they were about $100 each. The good news is they are super stable and reliable. Nice amp if you can handle the power and heat. No expense spared on this unit it is the pinnacle of Fet amps.
