One of Yamaha's finest decks. The closed-loop dual captstan system makes wow & flutter nearly non-existent. The K-1020 is a very easy deck to live with. The ORBIT system, though manual, is fast and easy to use. When complete, the tape rewinds to the starting point and is ready to make a recording. Frequency response with all types of tapes, especially Type IV and Type II is excellent. DBX was a controversial NR system, but used properly, can give excellent dynamic range and a signal to noise ratio (96db) that approaches compact discs)

Pros: ORBIT, accurate linear counter, nice multi-function 2 color fluorescent display, excellent full-logic transport controls2-speed FF/REW, nice smooth fader, 3 heads, closed-loop dual capstan, Double Dolby, Double DBX

Cons: Lack of Peak Hold reading on meters, lack of Play Trim found on later Yamaha models, no auto fader
