One of the best-looking cassette decks ever made and a joy to use. Extremely fast forward/rewind if button is held down slightly longer than normal. Tape well is back-lit. Comparatively easy to work on. Sound easily rivals that of 3-head decks without the added complexity. Individual specimens may suffer from weak, flickering, or absent illumination on the face plate; this can be completely remediated by carefully re-soldering as many of the solder joints on the reverse of the face plate as you can safely rework without setting the deck on fire. HX Pro extremely effective and undetectable unlike Dolby B/C, completely eliminating need for said Dolby. May have to turn master fader and L/F presets higher than previously accustomed to get optimum recording levels. Metal faceplate. Cassette well door may not be hydraulically dampened. A pleasure to record with; also, tapes made on KX-530 seem to play back well on other decks. Employs a Yamaha GF-40 head vs. no-name head on KX-500.
