re: NS-5000

Applaud Yamaha for creating a modern classic of their famous NS-1000/2000/10000 models. I just wish they hadn't gone bat $h1t crazy with the pricing of this model. I saw on a Yamaha Australia webpage they want $19999 AUS (including the stands). That translates to $15000 USD.
A really good condition NS-1000 will set you back $2500 USD or a Kenrick reconditioned set in a piano finish just over double that.
Aspirational ownership of quality Yammy products has always made the journey towards acquisition a rewarding experience but IMHO they've priced themselves into a very niche market.

re: NS-5000

I agree that the NS-5000 is expensive. But, to lend some perspective, I think I remember that dad retailed the NS1200 in 1988 for $6999AUD. I just compared the ABS' weekly earnings data and that equates to just over $23000AUD in 'today's money'! My price gage is my own 'sticker shock' - Yamaha flagship speakers (FX1, NS1000M, NS2000M, NS1000X, NS1200, etc.) were always built to a price-tag that made me gag a little bit when I first heard it - and on that basis $20kAUD is probably about right. But, bear in mind, Yamaha flagship models were always a blueprint for superb, affordable speaker series' (think NS200Ms, NS700X and NS-1). If the NS-5000 really does signal Yamaha's renewed commitment to 2-channel stereo, then I can't wait to hear what the NS-5000 'spawns' in coming years.
