re: RX-596

I just picked up a really clean RX-596 on eBay for $54 and am very impressed with the sound quality. I was using a well used Yamaha RX-350 that I paid only $10 for which really impressed me, but I needed remote control access and the entry level RX-350 doesn’t provide that plus the input selector was pretty scratchy. The RX-596 is a much heavier unit and I like the more solid feel of the volume and other controls. also the speaker terminals are better than the cheap feeling push terminals of the RX-350. The sound quality is very similar between them, but of course the RX596 has quite a bit more power, and the improved damping factor seems to provide tighter, cleaner bass response. A great 2 channel receiver in my opinion, although I’d still like to hook up a turntable to the phono inputs to see how that sounds.
