Better than my old 80's Sony receiver

I have one and must say i'm pretty disappointed.
There are two main negatives, first is the sound, which is dull and very boring with no image. Bass is hidden.
The second is setup, which is complicated and i hate it.
If you look good receiver in this range then the best option is Harman Kardon AVR130 or AVR230, but the best sound in this (lower) class has AVR155.
